Brian Wolf's Strange Awakening
Signs are not always meant to be seen; they can often be felt. My work explores how stories are experienced through the interplay of personal symbols. Between mystery and intention is where I want viewers to find their own stories waiting to be told.
I like to work in a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Experimenting with material helps keep my artmaking process fresh and exciting. These archaic and cartoonish-looking figures, objects, and landscapes come from my ever-growing collection of journals. The journaling process has not only given me subject matter for artwork but has greatly contributed to my emotional healing.
I hope through interacting with my artwork that viewers will walk away with a new understanding of their own inner world. It is through our own strange and different experiences where we find the spark for transformative growth.
Artist's Bio
Brian Wolf is an artist and graphic designer who lives in North Little Rock. Since 2021 Brian has been exploring symbolic imagery and abstraction using a variety of mediums. His primary medium has recently shifted from acrylic painting to drawing, printmaking, and sculpture.
During a trip to New Mexico in 2021, Brian was inspired to bring elements of landscape into his abstract painting practice. The distant rolling hills and ruined structures he saw there served as inspiration for two solo shows in 2022, the first of which was titled “Dormant Realms” at Argenta Library Gallery.
Now Brian is returning to Argenta with his latest show “Strange Awakening.” His latest body of work is the culmination of a personal and artistic transformation that began in 2023 and continues to be a journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
