Too Many Cooks

Maangchi's Real Korean Cooking

Ready to stir up some fun? Grab your apron and join us!

Join us on a flavorful journey where food meets literature! Too Many Cooks is a unique space for passionate home cooks, food lovers, and book enthusiasts to come together, explore new recipes, and discover the stories behind the dishes. Each month, we pick a new cookbook—ranging from classic favorites to trendy new releases—and dive into its pages, cooking and discussing recipes along the way.

Whether you're an experienced chef or just starting your culinary adventure, Too Many Cooks is all about sharing ideas, learning from each other, and most importantly, enjoying the food we create. Each meeting, members will make a dish from the featured cookbook and bring it to the meetup. We will taste the dishes, discuss our favorites, and share the recipes we liked most. You’ll leave with new recipes in your repertoire, inspiration for your next meal, and a group of fellow foodies who share your passion for cooking and reading!

To Participate

* Register for the meetup

* Get a copy of Maangchi's Real Korean Cooking or come by the Argenta branch (we will keep a copy at the front desk to choose a recipe from)

* Wait for an email from Molly with a document sharing which dishes will be made by others

*Make sure to respond to the email with the dish you will make

*Prepare your dish to share on May 15 and bring it to book club!

Featured This Month: Maangchi's Real Korean Cooking: Authentic Dishes for the Home Cook

"An Internet sensation, Maangchi has won the admiration of home cooks and chefs alike with her trademark combination of good technique and good cheer as she demonstrates the vast and delicious cuisine of Korea. In Maangchi’s Real Korean Cooking, she shows how to cook all the country’s best dishes, from few-ingredient dishes (Spicy Napa Cabbage) to those made familiar by Korean restaurants (L.A. Galbi, Bulgogi, Korean Fried Chicken) to homey one-pots like Bibimbap.

For beginners, there are dishes like Spicy Beef and Vegetable Soup and Seafood Scallion Pancake. Maangchi includes a whole chapter of quick, spicy, sour kimchis and quick pickles as well. Banchan, or side dishes (Steamed Eggplant, Pan-Fried Tofu with Spicy Seasoning Sauce, and refreshing Cold Cucumber Soup) are mainstays of the Korean table and can comprise a meal.

A full glossary, complete with photos, explains ingredients—plus, Maangchi suggests substitutions where appropriate and provides tips based on her readers’ questions."
