Arkansas League of Artists Members' Exhibition. Opening Reception: Friday, August 11, 2023, 6:30pm.
Arkansas League of Artists (ALA), a local non-profit artists group, today announced the upcoming 2023 Members’ Show Opening and Awards Ceremony. The event takes place on Friday night, 6:30 pm, August 11, 2023 at the Laman Library Art Gallery, 2801 Orange Street, North Little Rock. Around 45 new art works from the members are expected for viewing at that time. All pieces in the show will be judged, with monetary and ribbon awards given to those pieces chosen by this year’s judge, Colin Thompson, Art Director of Central Arkansas Library Services (CALS). Visitors may purchase pieces from these original art works since many of them will be for sale.
Debbie Strobel, a long-time ALA member and noted local pastel artist and teacher, said, “One of the biggest reasons I enter is because ALA is so generous with their awards. They give so many categories and places that you have a great chance of winning something.” The exhibit contains drawings and paintings in many media. Two other local artist groups sponsor awards – the Arkansas Pastel Society Silver Award at $300 and the Mid Southern Watercolorists Bronze Award at $250. The Best of Show/Gold Award carries a $500 value.
Visitors are welcome to the opening and to view the exhibit through September 29 during the Laman Library hours of operation, Monday – Thursday, 9 am – 7 pm and Friday – Saturday, 9 am – 1 pm. Many works in the exhibit are of landscapes and themes familiar to Arkansans. As Gary Owen, a Past President of ALA, from Cabot, said, “The beauty, color, and light are three aspects that compel me to exhibit. …Art creates a temporary escape from world distractions and aversions.”
ALA is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote creative arts and artists in the state of Arkansas. ALA welcomes new members interested in arts in the community. Contact arkansasleagueofartists@yahoo.com or Facebook Page Arkansas League of Artists for more information.
